Our society is riddled with racial issues and many issues are either over emphasized or denied. Each of us need to play a role and remove race from our opinions and focus on the greater society.

Can this really be achieved or will race always rear it's head ?

Nonracialism is an achievable objective, witness some developed countries where the colour of your skin is but a curiousity.

In the context of our history, the above ideal would seem to be like a mirage brought about by extreme fatique... just out of reach no matter how speedily we try to get to this goal.

I agree Braddo ... and it is a question that pops up many times in conversations that I have with people about politics in ZA. I have learned an amazing amount of things on the Facebook COPE Forum and I make a point of it to tell my friends and family that it serves no purpose to keep on using generalizations ... something of which I myself was very guilty of.

So it seems to me that at this point in time it is the best to support the COPE policy of being non-racial more than to actually see the party as non-racial. Do you agree with that statement ?

That is a fair statement Colyn. Whether the party is non-racial or not is something that COPE can only be judged upon in the months and years ahead.

Ok Braddo thank you for that.

Now it is a matter of us concentrating on the real issues that bother us and do this under the umbrella of the COPE non-racial policy and merely point out when we encounter racial issues. I think this is the right way forward because as you said earlier we do have a long road ahead to the goal of a non-racial society.

I am confident that my friends and family could come to accept such a policy.

Would you agree that in a broad sense we have a tendency to revert to racism when we run out of good arguments to support our opinion of a specific topic ?

While your statement may have merit in at least some instances, try to think of it as an extension of something like resorting to swearing. THe person in the debate who resorts to name-calling, cussing, or the "serious stuff" racial slurs, is the one who has just lost the argument. It is thus the action of a loser and weak debater more than it is an "ingrained" responsee by people in general.

Thanks Braddo ... I do agree with what you say. It means that we need to be especially careful when engaging in debates about issues that do have the potential of stirring up emotions. When one engages in those types of debates one need to make very sure that one is willing to accept opposing views with grace and not lash out.

Another question then ...

We as whites do not have the information about up and coming political leaders. In some of the Facebook posts it is clear that some of these new faces do have histories that we are not aware of. On numbers alone it does mean that any person with ambition to get into politics will need support from the broader community ...

What are the realistic chances of a young white guy to make it into the leadership segment.

Well Braddo yes ... she is there ... I am also willing to accept that she not only deserved it to be there but I also have to think that there was some strategy behind her appointment. If not so then I am ready to apologize.

I am talking from the lower ranks upwards. You know ... normal organic growth.

COPE is a thorough-going non-racial movement. This is borne by the composition of both leadership and membership. Even its policies and manifesto show that COPE is a modern party in which all patriots will feel comfortable in.

What is left is for us to break down the mental racial bars and mental live our modernity and non-racialism.

Yep you are right Molebatsi ... the new struggle will be against our own perceptions and I for one is really taking the bull by the horns. I want to learn more and I need to know more about the opinions of my countrymen so that I can learn more.
