Cheap place to eat in the Freestate

You can only go to Harties so many times before it gets rather boring; not to mention even more dangerous every weekend, with track racer wannabees joining the normal crowd. Personally I prefer going on longer runs (600km + for the day) rather than the quick shorter runs.

On an impulse yesterday morning Elsa and I decided to go for a ride. (sorry, no phodies). Quick shower and off we went. Took the N3 to get out of the relatively light early morning traffic towards Heidelberg. First smoke-break at the One-Stop close to Heidelberg - with the second stop at the outskirts of Vereeniging at the Villiers turn-off. Chatted with three GS Beemer off-road old timers that were scouting the area for “new” roads. They were already on their way back after a Frankfort run.

Elsa could not resist the smell of freshly baked bread and bought a loaf and a liter of milk only to hide it away very quickly in the top box. (I just had to test Colyn’s theory of buying local non fatty foods). On towards Villers until you can see the Vaal dam in the distance, where you then turn right towards the bridge below the dam wall. We enjoyed our still warm dry bread and milk and the ever present Chesterfield as an afterthought. Breakfast at the Vaaldam. We cannot put the Beemer lifestyle to shame you know.

Not to worry, we kept well out of sight………….

Thanks for sharing ... what I do most of the time is to have some carved Biltong and a box of cheese wedges in the pannier for those occasions where we happen onto freshly baked bread or rolls. Beats the pants off a greasy plate of cafe food. Must say ... I have a small SIXPACK cooler bag that also houses a small tub of Butro and a knife.

Maybe I must do some photos of my SURVIVAL pack Smiley

Checked it out on their website just now - will speak to the missus tonight - looks like a lovely venue/area to go to. Registration closes on Friday.

So that's what the top-box is for? Camera gear and a coolerpack - now why didn't I think of that!  Wink Thanx Colyn
